Richard T. Aulisi was graduated from Hartwick College in 1966 and Albany Law
School in 1969. He practiced law for 30 years in Gloversville and was elected to the New York State Supreme Court in 1999.
He is the former President of the Fulton County Bar Association; a former member of
the New York State Committee on Professional Standards and served as its Chairman. He
was a member of the Capital Defenders Panel, a 16 member statewide group, created to
review applications by attorneys who applied for appointment to capital murder cases. The
Panel was also charged with the duty of setting fees for such cases.
As a former partner in the firm of Caputo, Aulisi and Skoda and, later, Aulisi and
Skoda, Judge Aulisi was actively engaged in an extensive civil and criminal trial practice.
He handled cases at all levels of trial and Appellate Courts in the State of New York and
tried criminal and civil cases in other states and in many of the counties across the State
of New York, as well as in Federal Court. He served as a Special Prosecutor for Fulton
County and for 21 years served as an assistant County Attorney.
Judge Aulisi was sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice on January 1, 2000. In
addition to handling his assigned calendars in Fulton, Montgomery, Schenectady
and Warren Counties, he handled all of the asbestos litigation in the eleven county
Fourth Judicial District. From 2013 - 2018, he was assigned to handle all of the
asbestos litigation in the 28 county Third Judicial Department and has continued to
do so as a Judicial Hearing Officer since his retirement on December 31, 2018.
He has participated as a guest speaker at a number of national asbestos conferences and
has served as a speaker and panel member at a number of other litigation conferences and
seminars.
He has served as a member of the New York State Advisory Committee on Judicial
Ethics and is currently a member of its faculty. He also served as a member of the Judicial
Advisory Council and as one of the four justices comprising the New York State Litigation
Coordinating Panel. He is a member of the Fulton County Bar Association, Montgomery
County Bar Association, the Italian American Bar Association and the Association of Justices
of the Supreme Court of the State of New York.
In addition to his recent work as Judicial Hearing Officer, Judge Aulisi serves as a
mediator for a wide variety of civil cases.
He and his wife, Ann, are the parents of four children and have four grandchildren.
